Transformer
The Transformer is an attention-based neural network architecture that processes entire sequences in parallel, enabling powerful modeling of relationships across long ranges. It has become the dominant architecture in NLP and is increasingly applied to geospatial image analysis and multi-modal spatial reasoning.

It forms... architecture introduced in the landmark 2017 paper "Attention Is All You Need" that relies entirely on self-attention mechanisms rather than recurrence or convolution to model relationships between elements in a sequence. By computing attention weights between all pairs of positions simultaneously, Transformers capture long-range dependencies more effectively than RNNs and process sequences in parallel rather than sequentially. The architecture consists of encoder and decoder blocks, each containing multi-head self-attention layers and feedforward networks, with residual connections and layer normalization.
