What are ALKIS Gebäude?
ALKIS Gebäude are the building footprints recorded in the Amtliches Liegenschaftskatasterinformationssystem, Germany's official real-estate cadastre. Unlike footprints digitised from aerial imagery or crowdsourced maps, these are cadastral records maintained by the state surveying authorities: surveyed outlines linked to the parcel fabric and classified by building function. If your analysis needs to know what officially stands where, rather than what a satellite thinks stands there, this is the layer it stands on.

Building footprints in ALKIS are part of the official cadastre, maintained by the state surveying authorities alongside the parcels they stand on. What we deliver is a data copy of that record, harmonised for analysis, not a legally certified extract. Where certification is required, a beglaubigter Auszug comes from the competent Katasteramt.
What this means for you
In practice the value is provenance. When a footprint comes from the cadastre rather than image digitisation, you can cite its source to authorities, insurers and clients, and join it cleanly to the Flurstück it stands on.
What attributes do ALKIS Gebäude carry?
- Footprint geometry: Building outlines as recorded in the cadastre, aligned with the parcel fabric rather than digitised from imagery.
- Building function: The ALKIS Gebäudefunktion classification (residential, commercial, public and more) as recorded by the surveying authority.
- Cadastral linkage: Reference to the underlying parcel fabric, so buildings join to Flurstücke without geometric guesswork.
- Further attributes where published: Fields such as storey count or building name vary by state. Where the state publishes them, we carry them.
ALKIS follows the AdV standard, so footprint geometry and building function are consistent nationwide. But the optional attributes each state carries differ, and so does how completely they are filled. We keep what a state publishes and are explicit about what is missing rather than filling gaps with estimates.

ALKIS Gebäude are cadastral records maintained by the state surveying authorities, while OpenStreetMap buildings are crowdsourced. ALKIS footprints are surveyed, classified by official building function and linked to parcels, all properties crowdsourced data cannot guarantee.
Does the layer include building heights or 3D models?

Is this a certified cadastral extract?
No. The layer is a harmonised data copy of published cadastral data, made for analysis at scale. A legally certified extract (beglaubigter Auszug) is issued only by the competent Katasteramt.
Why are Bayern and Bremen not included?
Bayern and Bremen do not publish their ALKIS building data at source in a form we can carry, so there is nothing there for us to carry. The layer covers the 14 states that do publish. If either state opens its data, it joins the layer.
Can I combine ALKIS Gebäude with ALKIS Flurstücke?
Yes. Both layers come from the same cadastre and share the parcel fabric, so buildings join to Flurstücke directly. Note the coverage differs: parcels cover 15 states, buildings 14.
What formats do ALKIS Gebäude come in?
